Estate Planning Signings
Estate planning often happens at moments that aren't easy — illness, age, or a family conversation that's been on hold for years. I bring the notary book to wherever the signing is most comfortable: at home, at the bedside, in hospice, at an assisted-living facility, or at the attorney's office.
Documents I regularly notarize
- Living trusts (revocable & irrevocable)
- Trust amendments and restatements
- Certifications of trust
- Durable powers of attorney (financial)
- Advance health care directives
- HIPAA authorizations
- Self-proving affidavits attached to wills
- Quitclaim and grant deeds (funding the trust)
- Beneficiary designations
- Affidavits and sworn declarations
Working with attorneys and document preparers
If you're an estate-planning attorney, paralegal, or legal-document preparer, I can meet your client at the location of their choosing and return a clean, recordable signature package — typically same day. I'm comfortable working from a clearly tabbed package or coordinating directly with the signer. Available evenings and weekends for time-sensitive matters.
Hospital, hospice, and home signings
I've conducted signings at Bay Area hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, hospices, and private homes for clients who can't easily travel. I'm patient with elderly signers, take whatever time is needed, and triple-check every signature before we're done. If the signer needs witnesses, please arrange two adult witnesses (who are not beneficiaries) ahead of the appointment.
A note on California wills
California wills are validated by witnesses, not by a notary. A self-proving affidavit attached to the will is notarized, and that's the part I can help with — it can speed up probate later. The will itself still requires two adult witnesses (who are not beneficiaries) to be present at the signing.
Fees
California caps the notary fee at $15 per signature. Estate-planning packages often have multiple signatures and acknowledgments — I'll review the documents and quote the full price up front, including the mobile travel fee, before the appointment.
Where I do most estate-planning signings
Estate planning is busiest in Cupertino, Saratoga, Los Gatos, and Palo Alto, but I also handle frequent home and hospital-bedside signings in San Jose and Fremont.
